Fate Version 1.0 (Release Version)


Fate devlog 1.0:

This devlog will go over everything added since version 0.9:

Options save system

Boss health bars

Bug fixes

Any remaining issues/bugs for release version


Options save system:

The options menu now finally has a save system, you can now update your x and y sensitivity and the game audio to your liking and have it saved using the new menu that looks like such:

Each setting is able to go to a maximum of 10 and a minimum of 1, the zero next to SFX volume is a placeholder and can only go down to one, the save and load buttons both respectively save or load to a file in the game files, if you do not have this file already created there may be bugs but more on that later.


Boss health bars:

After having the game play tested in version 0.9 it was mentioned it was hard to tell how much damage had been dealt to the bosses so to remedy this boss health bars have been introduced and will be at the bottom of the screen once players get to the objective that is to kill them, the boss health bars look like this:




Bug fixes:

Multiple bugs have been fixed since the last version here is a quick list of all of them:

  • Throwing knives used to stay in the air due to not having enough force, values have been changed to reduce the chance of this happening
  • The slope in the first room of sinners den was not refreshing jumps, this has now been fixed
  • Spider tank did not die properly even after all six legs were broken, this has been changed in the event the player does not kill it within the six legs.
  • Map was not scaled properly during the orbit section, map has been increased in size to stop players from seeing unity default background behind it.
  • Players were unable to back out to planet selection if they had gone into a planet, players can now press escape to go back a menu in the level selection.


Remaining bugs:

Due to this being an assignment project and having a deadline there are unfortunately some bugs that I have not been able to fix in time for this release version they are as follows, there could be more but they have not been found by me yet:

  • In the options menu for some reason saving while on 8 or 9 for SFX Volume causes the number to display 8.000001 or 9.000001.
  • Weapons will not update their visuals until they have been interacted with at least once since switching, for example after switching from a shotgun to a sniper you will have to reload or shoot at least once for the visuals to update from the shotguns to the snipers.
  • Enemies are still able to hit you from under the floor if you are on the higher level platform of sinners dens first room.
  • Health bar has a chance to occasionally flicker on screen for seemingly no reason.
  • Some parts of the tutorial are skippable if players attempt to skip them
  • Inventory is unable to be taken through levels meaning players start both the tutorial and sinners den with the base weapons and not what they got in previous levels.



    Going forward:

    Due to this being the end of my semester there may not be any further updates to Fate, if I decide to make any they will be when I feel like working on the game again but overall I'm happy with how the release version of the game is going to play. At most Fate will be worked on as a background summer project but that's not a guarantee.
